The Executive Committee of the Department of Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School, would like to acknowledge and congratulate the trainees and faculty who received the following HMS Psychiatry Awards and Fellowships during the 2017 academic year. It is a marvelous way to celebrate our vibrant combined academic community.

Stuart Hauser Mentorship Award - The yearly Award is given to a faculty member(s) at Harvard Medical School for outstanding sustained mentorship of medical students, residents, fellows, and junior faculty in the areas of adult and child psychiatry, human development, and psychosocial research.

Cynthia N. Kettyle Teaching Award for Medical Student Education in Psychiatry – Presented annually since 2004 to HMS faculty members who have inspired medical students by their warmth, character and dedication to medical student teaching in psychiatry and have exemplified for students the vitality and relevance of psychiatry to medical practice.

  • Theodore Stern, M.D., Ned Cassem Professor of Psychiatry in the Field of Psychosomatic Medicine/Consultation, Massachusetts General Hospital
     

Jonathan F. Borus Outstanding Early Career Educator Award in Medical Student Education in Psychiatry – Presented annually since 2011 to junior HMS faculty members at Harvard Medical School who have demonstrated exceptional promise, initiative and commitment in the area of psychiatric education.

Mysell Award for Best Poster Presentation by a Fellow - Award given for the best Fellow poster presentation at the Harvard Medical School Department of Psychiatry Research Day.

  • Jacob Hartmann, Ph.D., McLean Hospital – “Forebrain glutamatergic, but not GABAergic, neurons mediate anxiogenic effects of the glucocorticoid receptor”
     

Solomon Award for Best Poster Presentation by a Resident - Award given for the best Resident poster presentation at the Harvard Medical School Department of Psychiatry Research Day.

  • Aengus O’Conghaile, M.D., Harvard South Shore Residency Training Program – “Familial risk for psychotic disorders in PTSD with psychosis”
     

Dupont Warren Fellows – Awarded to HMS Psychiatry Residents to create opportunities for advanced study and research in Psychiatry, and to serve as a bridge between clinical training and the development of a research career.

  • Paolo Lizano, M.D., Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital – “Through the looking glass: Reduction in retinal nerve fiber layer and microvascular density associated with schizophrenia”
  • Hermioni Lokko, M.D., M.P.P., Brigham and Women's Hospital/Dana Farber Cancer Institute - "Development of a positive psychology intervention to improve mood and health related quality of life in patients post hematopoietic stem cell transplantation"
  • Margo Nathan, M.D., Brigham & Women’s Hospital – “Targeting affective determinants of non-adherence to oral anti-estrogen therapy for breast cancer using a novel online CBT intervention”
  • Jaya Padmanabhan, M.D., Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center – “ Using neuromodulation to assess mechanisms of cortical plasticity in schizophrenia”
  • James Wilkins, M.D., D.Phil., Brigham and Women’s Hospital – “Measuring agreement in values and preferences between individuals with mild cognitive impairment or dementia and their care partners
  • Hilary Weingarden, Ph.D., Massachusetts General Hospital – “Risk and protective factors for depression and body image distress following bilateral mastectomy with breast reconstruction”
     

Kaplen Fellowship on Depression – This Fellowship was endowed specifically to support training in research on depression and allied affective disorders.

  • Emily Belleau, Ph.D., McLean Hospital – “Bouncing back from stress in adolescent depression: Investigating aberrant resting state connectivity in the aftermath of stress”
     

Norman E. Zinberg Fellowship in Addiction Psychiatry Research - This Fellowship was endowed specifically to support training in research on alcohol and drug use disorders.

  • Timothy Mariano, M.D., Ph.D., Brigham & Women’s Hospital – “A targeted, smartphone telemedicine-enhanced approach to reduce opioid misuse in persistent pain patients”
     

Livingston Award – This award provides support to beginning investigators in psychiatric research.
