Psychiatry Student Interest Group Events


The PSIG lunch talks included the following faculty speakers and topics from 2019-2020:

  • Global Health and Psychiatry Lunch Talk (1/27/20 at 12:45 PM): PSIG hosted Dr. Zeina El-Chemali for a lunch talk where students learned about her global health neuropsychiatry work in the Middle East. Dr. El-Chemali is dually certified in neurology and psychiatry and serves as the director of the Neuropsychiatry Clinics and Training at MGH. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. El-Chemali directs the Global Neuropsychiatry Outreach program at MGH and has done extensive work in the Middle East.

  • Food and Mood Lunch Talk (12/17/19 at 12:45 PM): PSIG hosted  Dr. Umadevi Naidoo, the Director of Nutritional & Lifestyle Psychiatry at MGH, professional chef, and a leading food-mood expert at Harvard for a lunch talk. Dr. Naidoo presented her work on the brain-gut axis and the connection between what we eat and our mental health.

  • Autism Genetics Lunch Talk (12/9/19 at 12:45 PM): PSIG hosted Elise Robinson, Assistant Professor of Epidemiology at HSPH and institute member at the Broad Institute for a lunch talk. Dr. Robinson discussed how  genomic methods are advancing our understanding of autism, and how investigators across the river at the Broad Institute are leading these efforts.

  • Digital Psychiatry: The promise of mobile health & machine learning (9/9/19 at 12:45pm): PSIG hosted Dr.  John Torous for a lunch talk on digital psychiatry, an exciting field with a lot of promise with regard to improving the efficacy of psychiatrists, helping us learn more about mental health, and for reaching traditionally marginalized populations. Dr Torous is the Director of Digital Psychiatry and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centerhas a background in electrical engineering and computer science, and has published over 75 articles examining the intersection of mobile health and psychiatry.
